NXP Semiconductors expanded its best-in-class, low power and long range JN516x wireless modules. The three new wireless modules: JN5169_M00, JN5169_M03 and JN5169_M06, are pre-certified FCC/CE/IC and can be loaded with the latest NXP ZigBee 3.0 stack. The new wireless modules with ZigBee 3.0 helps enable customers to rapidly introduce new wireless products into the mass market faster. 

ZigBee is an emerging leader for controlling and monitoring low-power, low-data-rate wireless networks. As much as it is reliable and robust, ZigBee devices are standardized at an application level segmented by market sectors through application profiles (e.g. Home automation, Smart Energy, Health Care). Devices from different profiles are not always able to communicate with each other. With the introduction of ZigBee 3.0, all previous functionality of the ZigBee protocol is maintained with the addition of unification of application profiles to allow all device types to connect wirelessly in the same network.

The new modules feature NXP’s wireless microcontroller, JN5169 which includes a 32-bit RISC CPU, a 2.4 GHz IEEE82.15.4 compliant transceiver and a mix of analog and digital peripherals with various memory sizes.

The modules are user programmable both in development and in production using software supplied by NXP. Access to the on-chip peripherals, MAC and network stack software is provided through specific APIs available on nxp.com

This comprehensive kit includes carrier boards with NFC I²C tags, JN5169 modules, plug-in expansion boards, a PN7120 NFC controller board, USB dongles and a specially programmed Raspberry Pi board, (includes programmed micro-SD card acting as a border-router) Together with a JN516x Software Developer’s Kit (SDK), JN516x-EK004 provides everything that is required for wireless network development.

The JN516x-EK004 evaluation kit can be ordered using the reference JN5169HA/EVAL1.
